William Robertson Expeditionary Scholarship

"With 13-year-old bravado and little else, he decides to continue his journey – alone. With a little help and a lot of determination, he fights the terrain, the weather and his own youthful doubts." - An excerpt from Getting There by William Robertson

Resolute Academy has created the William Robertson Expeditionary Scholarship in honor of a man who lived to bridge the gap between adventure and learning. In his own words, he was a dreamer, fisherman, second rate skier and climber. He Jumped out of airplanes when he was young. Always picked the long way. He was a poet who taught poetry. A New York tourist for 12 years, Boston for 10, California for 18, and Miami for 20. Deeply in love with his wife and lived for his children and grandchildren.

This scholarship will be distributed annually and will enable 20 students each year to go deep into the forest and “with a little help and a lot of determination” come home more secure in themselves. William Leonard Outten Robertson was a man of many talents and even more questions. It is our hope that our students will learn to see the world just as he did – with no maps, no compass and an insatiable curiosity for what comes next.
